Contemporary Jewelry Practice

SIMA GINA

Material-driven forms.
Hand-sculpted in wax.
Where transformation becomes shape.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work emerges from the hand-shaping of wax and metal, where movement, heat, and pressure form organic structures. I explore moments of transformation—fragility, tension, and the traces imprinted by the material itself. Each piece exists as a small-scale sculpture: worn on the body, yet retaining its autonomy as an object. I am drawn to the threshold between natural form and human gesture, to their dialogue and reinterpretation.

FOTOSINTEZ

A series exploring the growth-like movement of material, where wax and metal stretch, bend, and solidify like botanical structures. The works capture the moment where gesture meets natural rhythm.

VOLTAGE

Voltage explores the line as a gesture — a moment of movement held in metal. The series is built from technical materials that once belonged to electrical systems: industrial wire and transformer busbars. I reshape them by hand — compressing, bending and deforming the metal to reveal its renewed plasticity and allow it to follow its own impulse.Loops, spirals and pulsing contours emerge as spontaneous, sketch-like forms. The collection moves between the utilitarian and the aesthetic, where industrial remnants become sculptural jewelry that carries traces of force, direction and touch.

'HVOROST'

Hvorost is a series created from dental wax shaped directly on my hand. Its uneven layers, voids, and rough surfaces echo the childhood dessert “khvorost” — fragile ribbons dusted with sugar. The works capture the moment in which a bodily gesture and material memory become form.

LAVA

LAVA is a series about the moment when molten matter solidifies, preserving the trace of its own movement. The forms emerge through experiments with wax and metal — fluid, heated, almost breathing. Each piece captures a flash of transformation, when chaos turns into structure and raw energy becomes form.

EARLY WOKR

A small selection of my early pieces — experiments that shaped the foundations of my current practice. Here, I worked directly with metal, testing its limits through folding, reticulation, distortion and intuitive shaping. These pieces reveal the beginnings of my interest in form, texture and material behaviour — the vocabulary that later grew into my signature collections.
